Letters and Incentives

Cross Country Letter Requirements 2004

In order to receive a Varsity letter in cross-country, you must meet one of the following requirements.

1. Any athlete who runs as a Varsity runner in either the region or state cross-country meet.

2. An athlete who meets a time standard in a cross-country meet (5K--3.1 mile course) and also shows team spirit, a strong work ethic, proper behavior, and is a member in good standing. For boys, achieve a time of 19:15 on a 5K (3.1 mile) cross country course. For girls, achieve a time of 22:30 on a 5K (3.1 mile) cross country course.

3. A varsity letter can be achieved by having perfect attendance (August 2-region meet) to all practices and meets as well as demonstrating a positive attitude, quality work ethic, and a strong team spirit. Perfect attendance includes the three weeks of morning practices. If you are injured, you still must have perfect attendance at all practices and meets in order to receive a Varsity letter on perfect attendance. Athletes seeking a perfect attendance letter must also complete a 5000 meter (3.1 mile) race in a time under 32 minutes.

4. Any senior who displays both a strong work ethic, proper behavior, and team spirit along with their participation and good standing in all practices and meets.

Time incentive T-shirts

Time incentive T-shirts will be given to athletes based on their best competitive time during the season. For boys, the T-shirts will be given for 18:00, 17:00, 16:00 and 15:00 minute club. For girls, the T-shirts will be given for 21:00, 20:00, 19:00, and 18:00 minute club.

Vanquished Foes Necklace

Athletes can earn a vanquished foes necklace by improving their position in a race in the last mile. Beads are earned for number of people passed, individual top 5 finishes, and team top 3 finishes. Vanquished Foes beads will be distributed after each meet.

Summer mileage incentive T-shirts

Athletes who run 300, 400, or 500 miles during the summer months (June-August) and have documentation in the form of a running log will receive a special T-shirt.
